Case # 1 Hank Masters aka Mr. Millenium
Examiner: Evelyn Martin
Today’s subject marks the beginning of an extraordinary era in human history. Because for the first time, quantifiable, measurable evolution has occurred at a level in which the changes are not only visible but so drastically different that it warrants the question of if they could even be considered humans anymore. Perhaps we are seeing the birth of a new species. The first official session is with Hank Masters, Mr. Millenium is the code name that was assigned to him by the interim President of the United States. The first documented of his kind. Of OUR kind I guess. Supposedly, the numbers are rising every day.
“Mr. Millenium…” Evelyn started. She was nervous for some reason. The man was doing nothing to threaten her and yet she still didn’t feel safe. This was her first time around him and yet she felt the familiarity of his ego. Her entire adult life she had known men like him. Men who felt as if they walked on a sidewalk dipped in gold. As if the world owed them it’s total respect and not giving it was some great offense. Now this man had a power that the world hadn’t experienced outside of the stories of demigods. All of that power and the ego to match.
“Call me Hank.” he smirked as his eyes dropped below her glasses and found something else to focus on. She pulled her coat closed and tried to keep things moving forward. “Hank…first I’d like to ask you how are you feeling?” She turned her pencil towards her paper and prepared to write down his responses like she had always done before. But it wasn’t really necessary. The JAA was recording everything in this room. Every answer would be reviewed and scrutinized and reviewed again. She was just going through the motions.
“I feel freaking great.” He said as he flexed his bicep. He was a massive human being and Evelyn could hear the strain of his shirt as his muscles bulged with that action. She looked down at the before and after pictures that the JAA provided her. Before the Indigo Reset, the event that granted him his abilities. Hank Masters was 6 ‘1 and 210 lbs. The man in front of her towered easily 6’10 and 270lbs of pure muscle. He was a former combat veteran, dishonorably discharged because he didn’t follow the rules of engagement in a combat scenario that resulted in the death of two American soldiers and an Afghan child. Not exactly heroic. “That’s good to hear. Tell me…What changes have you experienced since the awakening?”
He was starting at himself in the mirror. If this was a normal session, Evelyn would’ve documented several types of narcissistic behavior. But this wasn’t a normal session. They wanted to know if he was a threat. Her instincts said yes but she had to quell her own gut to give an unbiased review of this new ‘hero’. “Well I’m strong as hell thats for one thing.” He said as he reached over and lifted Evenlyns bookshelf with one finger.”
She made a note of how easily he lifted the piece of furniture. The level of control he seemed to have over his physical strength for someone who hadn’t had it for a long period of time was remarkable. It was as if he had always had this level of strength. He set the bookcase back down and then continued, “I can feel the air too…” Evelyn turned her head to the side slightly. “You mean the wind?” Hank shook his head “No…the air. Like the air in this room. I can feel it vibrating. It’s like the air is alive or something. I can feel it. “
Evelyn made a note of that. She was certain the JAA would dig deeper into that at a later date but she wanted to take notes for her own understanding. Hank may be the first of a entirely new demographic of people seeking help. Which meant someone like Evelyn would need to be trained to help them.
“What made you save Tiffany Sellers?” She continued. She pushed her glasses up on her nose as she made eye contact with Americas first superhero. “You mean the little girl?” He asked. The question was genuine. He didn’t know what her real name was.
“Yes.”
“I’m not sure. I just kind of reacted.” He shrugged and turned his attention back to the mirror. His face was just as hardened as the rest of his body. “Were you not worried that a massive slab of concrete would injure both you and Tiffany?” Evelyn asked as she read over the report. An entire side of a small building, damaged from the Indigo reset fell on the girl and he stopped it with his bare hands. The slab was measured at 3400 lbs. Hank tossed it to the side like a piece of plywood. She had seen the clips on the news like everyone else in America. It was all the news could talk about for weeks.
“I don’t know. I didn’t think about it.” He shrugged again without making eye contact with her. “So far as we can tell, your abilities are an increase in your overall strength, your body’s durability has multiplied tenfold, and you can sense the vibrations of air. Did I get that right?” He looked completely uninterested in the session at this point. Something that Evelyn also shared an interest in. “Sounds right to me doc.”
Evelyn put her pad down, seeing that she wasn’t going to get much from him. “You’ve been approached about a new role in the JAA. The first official Super Hero. What does that mean to you?”He chuckled to himself. A deep rumbling that reverberated from his chest. “To be honest, if its a government job with benefits and I get to jump back in the fire like I used to, I’m all for it. Plus, I can’t wait to test these new muscles out with the ladies.”
“So what are you doing after this doc?” He leaned forward and reached for her thigh but she slapped at it. His hand didn’t move and it felt like she was hitting a brick wall, but he seemed to get the gist anyway. “We’re done here Hank.” Evelyn said quickly snapping her file shut. She silently prayed that she never had to deal with this man again.
